Hey! If you made it here, thank you for being here! My name is Lacy Modlin and I am a Graphic Designer. I have a love for all things design and creating work that will make a difference for people and their businesses.
I have always been a creator. My family and friends always bought me art supplies and new mediums for birthdays and holidays. I found so much joy in experimenting with different mediums, but like many people, I didn’t always see a path to making a living from art. That changed in college when, as a Psychology major, I took an art class that reignited something in me. It was the first time I saw art as more than a hobby.
I switched my major after that semester—but then Covid hit. I was sent home and had to take my first art classes remotely. That year taught me that it wasn’t just the doing of design I loved—it was the ideas behind it. The way art and concept could come together was everything.
The following year, I studied abroad in Italy at an Italian fine arts school. These students were incredibly talented and I learned so much more about how to adapt and that perfectionism isn't what creates great art.
I am a strong believer that sometimes the best thing to do is take a step back from the work and go for a walk. Some of my best work was unplanned and when my mind was left to wander. By the end of year, my artwork was in a gallery hosted by the Italian art school, Accademia di Belle Arti.
I spent my last semester in college applying for jobs, going door to door to get some practice projects, but I had no luck. By the end of summer, I had struggled to find a design job. I felt defeated and stepped away from design for a while.
After about 6 months, I knew I needed to do something. I threw myself into learning—watching videos, working on personal projects, designing for friends and family—and slowly, my portfolio grew.
I am now an official freelance Graphic Designer and I could not be happier to be on this journey of learning and doing what I love.
